This is a replica of the famous sign at the former East-West Berlin border near Checkpoint Charlie, one of the crossing points between the two sides during the Cold War. The Berlin Wall divided the city for almost 30 years (1961-1989) and there were many escape attempts which are chronicled in the nearby Checkpoint Charlie Museum.
